Low-molecular pectins or micropectins are a comparatively young class of chelates of biological origin. Similar to other low-molecular nutrients, their tiny molecules are able to penetrate though the mucous membranes in the bowel walls and take effect in the body itself i.e. not only in the bowel. In this way, low-molecular pectin can penetrate the blood vessels and cells with a very high proportion of its content. The micropectins are so small that they can even pass through the blood-brain barrier or the central nervous system. The low-molecular mass is able to interact with receptors in the plasma membranes of the lymphocytes, which in turn regulate the immune system. PektiClean ® therefore offers special opportunities in nutritional medicine.
Low-molecular pectin is unsaturated and negatively charged. Its “zig zag” shape surrounds the positively-charged substances like a pincer in order to achieve a saturated state. This is like two magnets where the plus and minus pole attract each other. The negatively-charged pectins are able to bind positively-charged substances in an extraordinarily strong yet very small complex, which can then be eliminated easily out of the body via the kidneys and liver. Thus “heavy” ions with a higher proton or atomic number are preferred as a binding partner and valuable minerals such as potassium, calcium or magnesium are protected. Resorbed parts can be fully excreted without delay. This property of micro dietary fibre has hardly been looked at in nutritional medicine.
